How it works

Check in
At your chosen time, Buddy sends a short message. Reply with anything and your day is logged.

A friendly nudge
No reply after 2 hours? Buddy checks in once more. Busy? Text "away 6 hours" to pause.

Your Buddies are told
Still nothing after 4 hours (you choose), your Buddies get an alert on WhatsApp and text, with your stay and a live status page.

Your hotel is asked
Later, Buddy contacts your hotel the way you chose for that stay. Once someone reaches you, they close the alert.

One short WhatsApp or text message a day, at the time you choose. Reply with anything, or tap "I'm OK". No app needed to answer.
Your Buddies, only when it matters
Go quiet and Buddy reminds you. Still nothing? The people you picked are told, with your hotel and, if you turned it on, your last known location.
A silent SOS word
Text one word and your Buddies are alerted at once, while Buddy replies with something innocent. Works from the iPhone Action Button and an Android tile too.
Your hotel, the way you choose
For each stay, decide whether Buddy texts the front desk, places an automated wellness-check call, or asks your Buddies to call.
A safety card for every trip
Your hotel, the nearest hospital, your embassy and the local emergency numbers in one place, from verified sources.
Guardian mode
Daily check-ins for a parent or relative who lives alone. They just reply on WhatsApp; you are told if they go quiet.
Pause any time
Off-grid for a hike or a flight? Text "away 6 hours" or tap Pause, and nobody is alerted.
Trip updates
Pick up to three photos and Buddy drafts a short note for the people back home. You approve it before anything is sent.
For Buddies
Being someone's Buddy is free and needs no app. You get one invitation and reply YES. After that you only hear from us if they miss their check-ins or send their SOS word.
Every alert has a personal link to a live page: how long they've been silent, their stay, their last known location if they shared it, the local emergency numbers, and a button to close the alert once you've reached them.
Privacy, built in
- Location is off by default, and shared only if an alert fires.
- No background tracking. No ads, trackers or data brokers.
- Your secret SOS word is a plain word match, never AI.
- Delete your account and data in the app at any time.
Questions
Is Buddy Abroad AI an emergency service?
No. It makes sure the people you chose find out when you go quiet. It does not contact the police or an ambulance. In an emergency, call the local emergency number.
Do my Buddies need the app?
No. They get WhatsApp and text messages and a web page. If they have the app, they also get a notification.
Does it track my location?
No. If you turn on emergency location sharing, we keep your last known location from when you last opened the app or shared a location in WhatsApp, and send it to your Buddies only if an alert fires. It is deleted after 30 days.
What does it cost?
14 days free once your number is confirmed, then a monthly plan for travelers or families. Cancel any time in your App Store, Google Play or account settings.
What if my phone dies?
If you opted in, your phone tells us when the battery gets critically low, and your Buddies are told the phone may simply be dead, with your last known location.
